Dear District 12 Toastmasters,
What:
Toastmasters Leadership Institute and Professional Development
When:
January 7, 2006, the first weekend after New Years.
Saturday, from 8:00 AM to 3:30 PM; Officer Training completed before noon.
Where:
California Baptist University, on the 8400 block of Magnolia Avenue in Riverside. The closest off-ramps from the 91 Freeway are Adams Street from the North and Van Buren Boulevard from the South.
So what's the big deal? Why should you care? Because this is an opportunity for Toastmasters to get the training to help them develop their potential. For Clubs, this is an opportunity to get your "one stop" training for Club officers and to share ideas with others. For your Club to get credit on its Distinguished Club Plan, at least four Club officers are required to receive training during each six month period (July to December and January to June). The biannual training is required both for Club Officers elected for six month periods or for the full year. This is the opportunity to complete this goal.
Of course, you are encouraged to have all your Club Officers and your Club members attend. Notice that Toastmasters Leadership Institute, TLI for short, is now also being advertised as Professional Training. That is because TLI is more than just Club Officer training. Some of the morning sessions and all of the afternoon sessions are devoted to personal and professional development. Last year, during both the January and June TLI's, various topics such as Evaluate to Motivate, Storytelling, Basic Leadership Styles, Conflict Resolution, Website Development, Basics of the Professional Speaker Path, and the Art of Negotiation were presented to name just a few. The presenters did a fantastic job. This January promises to be even better.
We will be at a new location, California Baptist University, just down the road from Riverside City College where we have held TLI the past few years. So you are already familiar with the general area. All the Cal Baptist classrooms and the restroom facilities for TLI will be on the first floor in one building in close proximity to each other. The facilities are recently reconstructed and modernized. Free parking adjacent to the building. The dining room is on the second floor of the same building, but with both stairs and two elevators for access. We will have a guest speaker at lunch. Lunch will be something different than the Chinese buffet provided the past few TLI's.
Put the date on your calendar now: Saturday, January 7, 2006. Stay tuned for additional information (cost, map, class schedule and matrix).
Sincerely,
Jack Nelson, ATMG
