The Toastmasters Journey - ALL ABOARD!

Lt. Governor of Education & Training
 Scott McGookin, DTM

Congratulations Members of District 12! Because of your ongoing commitment to personal growth coupled with the creation of several new clubs, 7 to be exact, District 12 is once again a Distinguished District for 2004-2005. The "Distinguished District" distinction is important because it cannot be achieved without the growth and development of you (our Toastmaster members),

The 2004-2005 District leadership is most proud of each District 12 member and the personal progress each of you has made this past Toastmaster year. It’s been a very good year. My question to you is are you ready to grow some more?

July 1st marked the beginning of the 2005-2006 Toastmaster Year. Happy New Year!

It is my honor to represent you as the Inland Empire (District 12) Lt. Governor of Education and Training (LGET). I appreciate the encouragement that you have provided me to volunteer to lead and perform the duties of the LGET this Toastmaster year.

As individuals, we joined Toastmasters for many different reasons. Over the next year I look forward to learning more about each of you, why you made the decision to join Toastmasters and where you would like your Toastmasters journey to take you.

Recently, our Toastmasters International President Dilip Abayasekara announced the theme for this new Toastmaster year. The theme is: "Find Your Voice, Serve Your World." I can’t begin to tell you how much that theme means to me. "Find Your Voice, Serve Your World."

Our Toastmasters programs offer so many opportunities to members to help us find our voice! Doesn’t It?

The next step is taking your voice and serving or helping others. Let’s call it service leadership. You may be serving your business client, helping make the world a better place by providing a volunteer service or promoting a cause, or service to your Toastmasters club as an officer or some other volunteer leadership capacity. Your actions are examples of service leadership.

As your LGET I have developed four major objectives for this next Toastmaster year.

(1) Focus on one member – one goal. (To me, it’s all about YOU!) This year the District is going to encourage each member to strive for achieving one Toastmaster goal. CTM, ATM, CL or other designations. Stretch and achieve one goal!

(2) Enhance the recognition you as a Toastmaster receive for your educational awards and service commitments.

(3) To build added value to our members by making Toastmaster Education and Training program opportunities more readily available to our membership.

(4) Educate the members about the many education and leadership opportunities Toastmasters provides.

Examples of these objectives will be incorporated into the Fall and Spring Conferences, extra-curricular "Super Saturday" events, at Toastmasters Leadership Institute (TLI), at Area and Division speech contests, and on the District 12 website at www.tmdistrict12.org.

Together with your personal commitment to growth, the 2005-2006 Toastmaster year can’t help but be an outstanding ride for everyone. ALL ABOARD!

I challenge you to ask yourself why you joined the worlds leading organization focused on improving the communication and leadership skills and share your story with me. Please take a moment and ask yourself … "What is the next step in your Toastmasters journey? " E-mail to me your story about why you joined, your Toastmasters goals and your journeys next step. Toastmasters Changes Lives! E-mail me at smcgookin@mindspring.com

To Me, "It’s All About You!" As International President Dilip said, "Find Your Voice, Serve Your World!"

I look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,

Scott "Scotty" McGookin
2005-2006 Lt. Governor Education and Training
