Website Help, Tips and Guidelines for District 12
Toastmasters International

Creating a web page for your Club can be challenging -- and enjoyable. Hopefully, it will also be a productive means of providing information to your club's members and prospective members.

1. Feel free to use the Toastmasters emblem and the words "Toastmasters" and "Toastmasters International." But, please also include the following trademark statement on your opening page:

"The names "Toastmasters International," "Toastmasters," and the Toastmasters International emblem are trademarks protected in the United States, Canada, and other countries where Toastmasters Clubs exist. Unauthorized use is prohibited."

2. Club web pages should contain information useful to current and prospective members and officers. Useful information includes, but is not limited to:

  • the Club name
  • the Club's meeting time, location, and a contact telephone number;
  • the features and benefits of Toastmasters membership;
  • membership promotion ideas for the Club's members;
  • a calendar listing appropriate information about Club events or events the Club's
  • members should attend;
  • the mission of the Club; and
  • a published or "last updated" date to identify the timeliness of the information.

3. Club web pages may also include an on-line version of the Club's newsletter or information appropriate for publication in a club newsletter.

4. If you'd like, include your club officer's names and e-mail addresses or telephone numbers. But, be sure to obtain their written permission in advance and keep a copy in your club's permanent records.

Feel free to create a link to the Toastmasters International web site (http://www.toastmasters.org). If you would like yours Club's link (URL) and email address to be part of the Club listing on the Toastmasters International web site please email the information, including your Club and District numbers, to tmmis2@toastmasters.org.

Note:

Clubs URL should be a maximum of 65 characters and email address should be a maximum of 35 characters.

A web page is an official publication of the club, and the club president is responsible for its content. District 12 Suggestions for Websites

Before you develop your club or division website, visit other club websites in District 12 and other Districts for ideas at www.tmdistrict12.org and www.toastmasters.org

District 12 Toastmasters appreciate:

  • Ease of navigation or user friendly
  • Appearance of being friendly and welcoming to guests
  • Diversity
  • Follows Toastmasters International Guidelines
  • Current information with the website being updated frequently, at least every 1 to 2 months.
  • Club websites includes a links to the District webpage at www.tmdistrict12.org, division webpage
    and the TI webpage at
    www.toastmasters.org
  • contains clear language

All the links on the web page must work to maintain the site's credibility. The site should be evaluated by at least two viewers, suing different web browsers to determine if all parts of the webpage work.

At the club level, the club president is responsible for its content, since a web page is an official publication of the club. At the Division level, the Division governor is responsible for the division webpage content and at the District level, the District Governor is responsible for the District webpage.Additional comments:

A successful webpage is like a toastmaster speech. It opens with an attention-getter that clearly identifies the subject.

Information and links should be presented in a logical and easy-to-find manner using succinct statements edited for grammar, spelling and relevant wording.

As vocal variety is emphasized in speaking, variety of type sizes adds interest and readibility when tactfully used.

Cleverness works only as well as its ability to enhance the information it is intended to relay.

As pauses add emphasis to spoken words, generous spaces highlight the graphics on web pages.
