Outstanding Member Program

 

 

Last year, 2006-07, we had a new, exciting program in  District 12 – the Outstanding Member Program.  It was a great success, with the participation of  99 of the 104 clubs in recognizing an outstanding member for his/her contributions to their club and the Toastmasters organization.

 

****THERE WILL BE A BRAND-NEW, SPECIAL PIN FOR THE 2007-08YEAR!!!****

 

We will continue this program for the 2007-08 year with the same general format:

 

1- Connie Jameson will again serve as chairperson for the program, but would appreciate ideas and assistance.  Co-chair volunteers would be welcome.

 

2 - Each club is to select one member to honor with this recognition.  The method of selection is left to the club to decide.  (Possible methods could be (1) verbal nominations and vote at a club meeting; (2) request for written nominations from members; (3) executive committee or a nominations committee prepares a ballot for the club members’ vote.

 

3 - There are no set criteria for making the selection; that is, also, for each club to decide.  (It was interesting, informative, and inspirational to read about the individuals chosen last year.  There was a wide variety of reasons given for the contributions of the Outstanding Members and why they were so appreciated by their fellow club members.)

 

4 - The name of the Outstanding Member for the club will need to be submitted along with a brief description (2-4 sentences) as to why that person was selected.  This information will be requested for March 1.

5- Each Outstanding Member will be recognized with a special pin, a certificate, and will have his/her name and the reasons for being selected printed in a special recognition booklet.  This booklet will be distributed at the District 12 Spring Conference on April 26, 2008. The individuals will, of course, be recognized at the Hall of Fame luncheon that day.

 

Plans are being made to include information on Outstanding Members from the 2006-07 year on the District 12 website.  The names will be changed periodically, so keep checking the website to read about these special individuals from last year. (Be sure to notify your fellow members and friends when you find them on the web!)

 

Another interesting idea was suggested: Have a special event to honor these special members.  Perhaps it could be potluck meeting with family and friends invited.  Each club would be allowed a set number of minutes to do something to recognize their Outstanding Member ( a skit, song, poem, photo display, present a crazy hat or banner/sign that club members made, etc.).  Use your creativity to make the presentation fun, as well as informative.  Sounds interesting!  Suggestions are welcome.

 

Important reminders:

 * One person selected per club

 * Selection is by club members (not just president or area governor, etc.)

 * Selection based on the period of  June 2007– March 2008
